Neptune Aqua : FAQs
What is Rainwater Harvesting?
Rainwater harvesting is the collection of rain in order to supply toilets or other non-potable applications, supplementing water from the mains water supply. This saves costs by reducing the amount of mains water required and is kind to the environment.
What advantages are there to saving rainwater?
  • The benefits are many: - cost savings due to less water being purchased from the water company is an obvious benefit
  • We are saving natural water resources and preventing some of the UK’s annual rainfall from entering our ancient sewers. Much of the local flooding reported in the news is due to large areas urban areas being built upon thus preventing rain water from naturally seeping into the ground. This run-off water overloads our ancient sewers which simply cannot cope, hence the flooding problems
  • Using Rainwater Harvesting as source of water for hosepipes means gardeners are not affected by hosepipe bans during periods of drought
Why should I choose Neptune Aqua?
  • Neptune Aqua designs, manufactures, installs and maintains Rainwater Harvesting Systems, meaning that we offer the whole solution from end-to-end. We don’t just turn up and dump a kit on your doorstep! We understand that every installation is different and tailor all aspects to suit the individual needs of the project.
  • We have many years of experience in both large and small projects. We design and build our own systems and can therefore make any engineering changes required for special conditions as required. We can also engineer bespoke systems for individual applications
  • Our units are British Built! Our units are wholly designed and manufactured in the UK, thus protecting local jobs. Our Carbon Footprint is reduced because we do not import rainwater harvesting units from other parts of the world
  • Our units comply with the necessary UK and European standards and are fully CE marked, complying with the following standards: BS 8515:2009 (Rainwater harvesting systems code of practice), European Low Voltage Directive, The Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations 1994 (UK), BS EN 60204-1 Safety of Electrical Machinery, The Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations (EMC) 1992
Is Planning Permission necessary?
No specific regulations are made for installing Rainwater harvesting Systems, but the Building Regulations must be observed.
How do I maintain the system?
All filters should be emptied and cleaned every three months. Additionally, pressure vessels (where fitted) should be checked for correct pressure. Details can be found in our Operation & Maintenance manual.

Alternatively, Neptune Aqua can provide cost-effective routine maintenance programmes to suit individual applications. Let us know if we can help!

Are grants available?
Currently, there are no grants available, but there is increasing pressure to provide an incentive in this form. It is possible for qualifying businesses to take advantage of a tax benefit scheme called the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme. Details can be found at www.eca-water.gov.uk.
